Campaign News for 6/1:

Upon your return from the cleanup of the cavern, the guards at the harbor cheer you, swords raised. As they help you from the boat, they inform you that something strange happened at the pagodas during your trip to the waking world. A great vine, thick and green rose wavering out of the canyon, entwining itself around the rope bridges. The guards hacked at its thick stem, but to no avail. Forming a pod at its front, it pushed its way into the pagoda of a terrified Malichar. When the pod opened, the onlookers saw a pale white face staring out from its interior. At this point a dark screen descended over the windows and door, obscuring the scene and sound within from the many figures pressed in to look. After a period of ten minutes, the vine withdrew, sinking back into the jungle below. They tell you that Malichar is eager to speak to you.

After congratulating you on your assault of the Lurid Toads, and appraising your goods, Malichar carefully posts sentries outside, closes shutters and locking the door. In private, he informs you that the witch Zalvorex has sent an unusual manifestation to visit with him. (He implies casually that he is often subject to secret deliberations with this powerful figure, as his trusted confidante in the jungle above.) Malichar says that Zalvorex’s courier Vaz has been detained. Through sorcerous means, Zalvorex knows that he still lives, but owing to some interfering power is unable to locate him exactly. He disappeared en route to the pagodas and has not returned for more than a week. Zalvorex will reward the recovery of his courier handsomely.

In light of this, these are the current active hooks:

(1) Recover Vaz

(2) In your journey to the Cenotaph of Shirishanu, the party uncovered a tunnel leading through the brambles directly to a set of caves in hex 1709.

(3) Your most recent successful siege of the Lurid Toads has also uncovered a large brass door leading into the wall of the stone cavern.

(4) A plumed bird man you freed from captivity in the wicker cages found in hex 1910 told you that there was a “temple of man idols” just south of the small mountain (Mount Drethi) on the second level of the jungle. He made reference to the “worthless shining baubles your kind is obsessed with”.

These older hooks are still outstanding:

(5) The good witch Zalvorex is always seeking apprentices and champions in his endless struggle with Bazekop, the demon of the west wind. Such service is very lucrative, but also dangerous. Zalvorex's traveling manse drinks regularly at the emerald pools that are said to flow in the densest part of the jungle below, two miles southwest of the pagodas. [Malichar is the source of this rumor]

(6) A benevolent spirit of the air known as Bazekop is in need of able personages to help him in his ceaseless contest with the foul demonologist and necromancer Zalvorex. Bazekop can be sought in his invisible tower, which floats near the aerie of the giant crows in the lowest level of the jungle, on the far west side of the island. [Nekalimon is the source of this rumor]

(7) The legendary Summer Palace, if indeed it still exists, is located deep within the lower levels of the jungle. If you wish to find its location, you would be wise to seek the Chittering Masons who are said to have constructed it for the Incandescent Kings. They are disconcerting conversationalists, but their memory is long and they love everything they have crafted with their long and slender hands. They are said to maintain a village somewhere in the densest part of the jungle below.

Let me know what you want to do this session

Comments

  1. Let's try and rescue Vaz for Zalvorex. That floating mansion sounds stupid useful for expanding our map.

  2. Cool, lets do it. Maybe speak to the Chittering Masons as soon as we have time, as well.
