The Sunken Circle, The Temple of The Archons Steps lead down from each of the five shrines into the sunken area at the center of the Temple of Archons. Along the wall of the depression at shoulder height, an inscription is carved, “It Belongs Not to the Pawn to Question the Intention of the Hand That Moves It”. The bulk of the sunken area is taken up by a single immense block of red stone that has been carved into a wondrous model of a city. When one descends the stairs, the model lights up, illuminated by the same light that currently falls on Zyan above. When you first viewed the model, the streets are lit by the mottled light of sun through dappled clouds. But later, when you poke your heads in to the temple, the model is lit by silver light of the moon and phantasmagorical pools that accumulate below the city's dangling colored lanterns. The model rises to shoulder height at its highest, and waist height at its lowest. It is stylized, with some buildings and locations of ou
At these levels "eggshells armed with hammers" is a good analogy. Compare total party HP to amount of healing available - we have one Heal, maybe a couple more Cure Light, and a potion of Extra Healing for each of us. We have strong incentives to use overwhelming force to keep fights short, I don't recommend battles of attrition.
ReplyDeleteI've got Remove Curse and Stone to Flesh on scrolls, but just one of each. I've memorized Dispel Magic once.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, we need to be a bit more cautious and creative. I think we really should be using combat as a last resort. If we approach every situation as if it's automatically hostile we aren't going to last very long. Let's take a look at our character descriptions and see if we can use that as a clue. I for one would like to see if Yazid can "charm" his way past the snake woman next game. His background story has a lot of stuff that would be fun to to role play out, as I am sure everyone else's does.
ReplyDeleteI've got only a few spells myself, with the most potent being Magic Missile x2
ReplyDeleteI’ll post an annotated Map for next session tomorrow and you guys can scheme. I probably need to recruit one or two more players, although Evlyn M might be back
ReplyDeleteAfeerah's magic spear can do a 100' radius sandstorm effect for 6d6 damage that takes up 4 charges, it can for 1 charge paralyze someone, and is a Rod of Lordly Might (strike fear in sight for 1 charge, battering ram vs doors for free, and 50' climbing pole for free). 20 charges total. Also, its a bag of sand. Potion of extra healing, gaseous form, plant control, and fire resistance. Otherwise she is a very good fighter (Thac0 3 with the spear, 6 with the magic bow), has decent but not great AC (AC 0 for 13th level).
ReplyDeleteBen L. Do we have any sense of the personality or history of our avatars? I'm not asking for specific knowledge about the city, but if Unasi is trying to pull off Afeerah, will there be an obvious disconnect?
ReplyDeleteEric Boyd I also think we need to talk to each other and not talk over each other. I wanted to use my climbing pole to get to the dangling rope from the beginning, but I didn't make that clear(which I should have) and other characters seemed to have their own plans.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I might be funneling frustrations from other sessions into this one. My apologies to everyone.
ReplyDeleteAleksandr Revzin I noticed this as well. It was way too chaotic. We were acting like individuals, and not like a party. I think that, going forward, we should arrive at a group consensus before committing to any action.
ReplyDeleteAleksandr Revzin Both Afeerah and Unasi share a hatred of slavery and dominion, and both are brave. But Unasi is philosophical in his demeanor, and is both kindly and just. Afeerah is unreflective but cunning, and quick to anger. She is a natural leader of fighting men, and does not show mercy.
