A Primer on the Abyssal Dungeon The Short Version : This huge dungeon was designed as a prison, with seven locks of increasing difficulty reach its central prison chamber. The party believes that the real king of Zyan is imprisoned there, with a powerful imposter ruling in his place. The party has opened 3 of those locks, and is currently in the area beyond the Hydraulic Portal (the third lock). Each "level" of the dungeon in some way echoes some aspect of Zyan, the flying city of the dreamlands that sits above it. The area the party is in seems to be a set of tunnels for workers with pipes and clockwork puzzle elements. I'll be doing an XP and treasure thread soon. But let's get the downtime thread rolling: The party has come through another shimmering priaduct from Adrianna's quarters into Zalvorex's moving manse. After finding out about the Sapphire he was investigating, the party informed Zalvorex that they had a prisoner from Phantamoria. This is a being that came through his own priaduct while the party was in the library. The party wanted to know more about the group and its capacities. Several things emerged from the conversation: Methrion sails on a vessel called "The Double". It has a crew of 20, and is captained by Valdivoir. The Double has materials to repair or replace the ruined sail of "The Parapraxis", Zalvorex's ruined vessel that is crashed in the Valley of the Flowers on level 2 of the White Jungle. The Sunken Circle, The Temple of The Archons Steps lead down from each of the five shrines into the sunken area at the center of the Temple of Archons. Along the wall of the depression at shoulder height, an inscription is carved, “It Belongs Not to the Pawn to Question the Intention of the Hand That Moves It”. The bulk of the sunken area is taken up by a single immense block of red stone that has been carved into a wondrous model of a city. When one descends the stairs, the model lights up, illuminated by the same light that currently falls on Zyan above. When you first viewed the model, the streets are lit by the mottled light of sun through dappled clouds. But later, when you poke your heads in to the temple, the model is lit by silver light of the moon and phantasmagorical pools that accumulate below the city's dangling colored lanterns.
