The Consultation with Adriana

The Consultation with Adriana

Adriana’s apprentice Valtropis, a thin, balding man with a wry demeanor meets Sir Tresken at the door at the appointed time, and conducts him in. The room has gotten into better shape. A huge and arcane looking map of the stars painted on a massive piece of vellum has somehow been affixed to the ceiling. A tiered set of wooden shelves holds numerous herbs and odds and ends—the tiny skull of a minotaur sits next to a jade bell which is balanced on a jar filled with what look to be small pickled brains, etc. Warm light from shaded lamps fills the little space. Adriana is sitting in small cushioned chair before her enormous mirror with a doll in her lap, and there is now a chair large enough for you to sit in.

In her gravelly, matronly voice, she insinuates that she can surmise the source of your remarkable substances. She refers to the situation as “a game changer”, and tells you that collaboration will be to your mutual advantage. She believes the powder comes from the distilled essence of some magical entity with which she is unfamiliar. If breathed in, it will induce variable hallucinatory and suggestive effects. The ooze she identifies as a liquefied dream pudding. Its properties are subtle, and it has many possible uses at which she can only guess at present. However, she is confident that using a substantial quantity as a base, she could manufacture a liquid which when consumed, would allow one to return instantaneously to any point in Wishery of which one has experience. Having lost her use of the palace facilities with her demotion, the manufacture of such items is now an expense she incurs herself. For each entire HD of dream pudding delivered to her, she will manufacture 1 such potion for the cost of 150gp. She tells you frankly that she has consumed some of each of the articles to identify them, and has held back a portion for her own research. There is none of the small amount of pudding left to return, and about half of the iridescent powder remains—enough for three doses.

She stresses that you should bring any and all articles to her for identification. If they are of interest to her, she will pay you handsomely for the ones you are willing to part with. She also craves information, and while there are some obstacles to her research she vaguely hints at, she indicates the Chatelaine’s libraries likely contain the answers to many questions. She stresses that many of the entities and substances of distant worlds are likely to have some eldritch use, and urges you to bring them to her liberally.

  1. Joshua Blackketter Shall we ask her to ID the green swirling flask as well?

  2. Eric Boyd Let's say that Sir Tresken has made the following arrangements with Adriana. When you have items for her to examine, you can deposit them at an apothecary's shop, and her apprentice Valtropis picks them up. That way, when Joshua's not playing, the party's not frozen out. If you want to drop the swirling gas, that's no problem, and you'll have the results in downtime after next session.
