Session 40 Recap and the Take

Session 40 Recap and the Take

The last session saw the party discoursing with Lathanon's immortal hound Hector through an blessing provided by MANA YOOD-SUSHAI, the Slumbering God. They followed Hector to the Chapel, entering through the double doors on the first floor. The dog made a break for it, but Pasquale was able to tackle and recapture it.

Hector informed them that Lathanon's shade would not rest until Zyan was restored to her former glory. He indicated that this would likely have to involve freeing Umpalior, the unfortunate present King of Zyan depicted on the top panel of the Chapel's stained glass. He informed the party that the glass shows that Umpalior is held in the Abyssal Dungeon, a fiendishly constructed prison intended to hold the Anti-Metaphysical Crown of the Hidden King. He said that he knew well where it was, having travelled with Lathanon there on occasion. (It is located in the nighted tunnels of the brambles on level 1.) He agreed lead the party there, and seemed to take their desire to reach this destination as some indication that they actually sought to restore glory to Zyan, notwithstanding their current thievish ways. Unfortunately, he has no information on how to open the many locks of the prison, telling the party rather unhelpfully that the Metaphysical Crown (now held within) opens all doors.

While the party was in the Chapel, they finally managed to liberate a glorious crystal chest from the inimical song that held them at bay in past sessions. It turned out that the crimson robes that Reginald Cruft was wearing let him just walk up to thing and open. Open examination they found that the chest projects a grand image of whatever is held within on all sides. It appears that it was intended originally to display the Metaphysical Crown in ceremonial contexts.

Hector seemed eager to enter the White Jungle with the party, so that he could hunt once again. (He probably would have mentioned wanting to pee on certain trees as well, although sadly I didn't think of that at the time.) So the party decided, with the help of two skeletal porters, to transport their incredible haul back to the hanging merchants. They did so without major mishap, arriving there laden with incredible quantities of loot, just in time for the duel between Sir Tresken and his rival, the Storm Rider Sir Carnes.

I will soon have an update and downtime thread on the situation at the hanging merchants. But first, the haul this session. I also liquidated all your loot for you, including the crystal chest (but not including the other magic items), and divided the total by number of sessions played. If you want to hold on to the chest, I'll need to recalculate the gold sums, and I'm happy to do that. Just let me know.
